ñ is pleased to announce an open call to support six PhD students from ñ Constituent Societies to attend the 36th National “A. Castellani” Annual Meeting for PhD Students in Biochemical Sciences. The meeting is organised by the Italian Biochemical Society (SIB) in collaboration with the University of Pavia and will take place in Brallo di Pregola, close to Pavia (Italy), from 25 to 29 May 2026.

This long-standing annual event offers a unique opportunity for PhD students working in biochemistry and related disciplines to present their research, exchange ideas, and build international scientific networks in an informal and collaborative setting.

About the meeting

Established in 1988, the “A. Castellani” Annual Meeting is a well-recognised forum for PhD students in biochemical sciences. The meeting typically brings together around 50 PhD students from Italian universities, creating a focused and interactive environment for scientific discussion. The programme includes:

  • Oral and poster presentations by PhD students
  • Keynote lectures and thematic scientific sessions
  • Dedicated opportunities for discussion and networking

ñ Support

ñ will support the attendance of six PhD students by covering:

  • Registration fees
  • Accommodation costs
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses, up to a maximum of €350

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled as a PhD student
  • Be a member of a ñ Constituent Society
  • Be working in biochemistry or related disciplines

Eligible participants must not be Italian students, nor young members of SIB studying outside Italy.

How to apply

Applications are open from 10 February to 20 March.

Applicants must submit one single PDF file containing the following documents:

  • Proof of PhD status
  • Proof of current ñ Constituent Society membership (a membership certificate or letter dated within the past year)
  • Curriculum Vitae, prepared using this template
  • Letter of motivation (maximum 300 words), describing how you would benefit from attending the meeting
  • Letter of recommendation from your PhD supervisor (maximum 300 words), including signature and full contact details
